Shoulder arthritis can take a toll on your daily life, turning simple tasks like lifting groceries, reaching for an object on a shelf, or even finding a comfortable sleeping position into painful challenges. This condition, often caused by wear and tear on the shoulder joint, can leave you feeling limited and frustrated. But there’s good news—effective treatments and a positive outlook can make all the difference.

With advancements in shoulder care and skilled surgical expertise, many patients have not only found relief from chronic pain but have also regained their mobility and returned to the activities they love. These success stories highlight how a personalized treatment plan can pave the way for recovery and inspire hope for those struggling with shoulder arthritis.

The Path to Relief: Treatment Options for Shoulder Arthritis

Every patient’s journey with shoulder arthritis is unique, but modern medicine offers a variety of treatment options tailored to individual needs. These can range from non-invasive approaches like physical therapy, medications, and joint injections to surgical solutions, such as shoulder joint replacement. For patients with advanced arthritis, surgery often provides the most effective path to long-term relief and restored function.

Inspiring Stories of Recovery

“Go for it” - Micheal

Micheal is 2 years postop left shoulder replacement. Before surgery, he could not raise his arm up at all. He was in a lot of pain. Now, he has zero pain. His left shoulder function is the same as his right and he is doing everything that he needs to do. His recommendation for people considering shoulder replacement is to go for it!

“Before surgery, I couldn’t move my arm” - Leslie

Leslie had a reverse shoulder replacement done. Before surgery she could not move her arm. A year out from surgery, she is able to do everything she could before. She recommends following the postoperative instructions including the stretches to ensure the best outcome.

“My biggest fear was the pain, which never materialized” - James

As a tennis player, James was having problems with shoulder range of motion and lack of strength due to burst tendons. Two years out from surgery, the pain is non-existent for the most part. He is able to do most activities he could in the past. He plays tennis 5-6 days a week. He still swims on either side, side stroke, breast stroke, back stroke. He also uses his bike. It was just a matter of adapting to a new shoulder. His biggest fear going into the surgery was the potential for a lot of pain. As James lives alone, he actually almost went to live with his son and his wife, but the doctor reassured him that the pain would be manageable, which it was. He kept his followup visits with a nurse and 3 times a week he had in-home physical therapy. To his surprise, he never did take any of the pain medications he was given other than for 3 days after the surgery.
